The Card's Image and Symbolism
A queen sits on her throne, outdoors. Not in a chamber – in the garden.
She holds a coin in her lap, with both hands, and looks down at it. Not proudly. Gently. The way one looks at an infant.
Around her is a blooming rose arbor. On her throne are goat and fruit motifs. At her feet, in the grass, is a rabbit.
In the background are fertile fields, hills.
This is the warmest, most earthy card in the deck. And the least appreciated.
She Who Does Not Speak, But Feeds
This woman does not explain. She does not give speeches, she does not argue.
She cooks. She takes care of things. She notices you are cold and brings a blanket before you even ask.
The Queen of Swords helps with words. The Queen of Cups with feelings. The Queen of Pentacles with her hands.
This card tells us: love that is not seen is the strongest kind. Someone who cooks lunch every day for eighteen years has said more than anyone who has written a poem.
How She Holds the Coin
This is the most important detail of this card.
Look at her hands. She doesn't clutch it, like the Four of Pentacles. She doesn't measure it, like the Six. She doesn't carve it, like the Eight.
She holds it. With both hands, in her lap, and watches it.
This is her attitude towards money, the body, the home, everything material: it is not a tool. Nor is it an idol. It is a living thing that needs care.
Those who look at money this way will keep their money. It is not stinginess that keeps it – it is respect.
The Rabbit in the Grass
The card's most subtle symbol, and almost everyone overlooks it.
The rabbit is an animal of fertility. But it is also the most fearful animal in the world: it can run away at any moment.
This woman is so calm that the rabbit sits at her feet.
This is the true measure of who this person is. Not how much she has. It is that even the most fearful creature is not afraid of her. Children, animals, vulnerable people all sense it – and go to her.
If you have such a person around you: cherish them. If you are such a person: know that this is rare.
The Garden, Not the Chamber
She does not sit in the throne room. Outdoors, among the flowers.
