A figure turns its back on eight carefully arranged cups and walks towards the mountains. It is night. The moon is waning.
Look at the cups: they are in order. They are not overturned, not broken. This is why this card is so difficult – it's not leaving because there's something wrong. It's leaving because it's not enough.
And now pay attention to the most important detail. There is a gap between the eight cups. A missing piece in the top row. The figure is not leaving behind ruins, but an almost complete life, from which only one thing is missing – and it's precisely that one thing without which it cannot continue.
This card is therefore the loneliest in the deck. Everyone understands someone who leaves a collapse. Someone who leaves something good, people say: what's wrong with you? After all, you have everything.
The moon is waning: this is a time of farewell. It's not a random moment – it's the end of a cycle.
