The Card's Image and Symbolism
We are under an archway, in a courtyard. A man and a woman stand, talking. Beside them, a child reaches out and strokes a dog.
And at the edge of the image, almost out of frame, sits an old man. In a rich, patterned cloak. Two dogs stand at his feet, leaning towards him.
In the background is the family crest, with the city behind it.
There are ten pentacles in the image, and not randomly: they are arranged in the pattern of the Tree of Life, spread over the entire scene. Like a web connecting everything.
This is the most complete material card in the deck. Here, everything is already present.
What is Wealth Here
Look at what is in the image. Not money bags. Not a palace. Not ships, not gold.
A courtyard. A couple talking. A child. Dogs. An old man who can sit.
This card says this about wealth: wealth is not having a lot. It is having someone to share it with. He who has acquired everything and has no one to look at across the table is not wealthy – he just has a lot of things.
If this card has come to you now, then you are asked to look around. Not at your bank account. At your table.
The Old Man at the Edge of the Image
And now, the most poignant detail of the card, which almost no one notices.
He sits there, at the edge. He built all of this. His cloak has the most beautiful pattern in the image. And no one looks at him.
The man talks to the woman. The child plays with the dog. The old man just sits.
This is the quiet truth of this card: he who builds, at some point becomes invisible. Not as a punishment – this is the nature of success. If you did it well, then their lives are no longer about you. That was precisely the goal.
But only the dogs go to him. The animals sense who held it all together.
If you are tired now of always bearing the burden, and no one tells you: this card sees it. The angels see it.
The Tree of Life
The ten pentacles are not scattered in the image. They form a system, spread over the entire scene – people, dogs, archway.
This means: what is here is not accidental. It's a structure. Someone planted a tree decades ago, and you are now sitting in its shade. And someone fifty years from now will be in the shade of your tree.
The Archway and the Crest
Look at what they are passing through. A gate with the family's emblem on it.
This card is about belonging: that you belong somewhere. You have a name, a place, a table. There are those who know your stories because they were part of them.
This cannot be bought with money. That's why this card is the ten.
The Shadow
In a reversed position, this card shows two things.
One: the family has become an institution. There is wealth, there is a house, there is appearance – but no one talks in the courtyard. Inheritance disputes, silence at Christmas, money that has driven a wedge.
The other: the inheritance is a burden. You do what was expected of you, not what you wanted. The crest under which you pass is sometimes heavy.
The Card's Request
Look at the old man.
Today, call the person who built what you are now living in. Who no longer interferes, who no longer asks for anything, who just sits in the chair. Tell them that you know.
And build something that outlives you. Not to see its end. But so that there may be shade.
