The Seven of Cups is the card of choices and illusions: many possibilities entice you, but not all are real. Look into your heart and choose what truly nourishes you, not just what sparkles.

Correspondences — Element: Water · Color: Cups · Rank: Seven · Yes-No: Decide first – then yes
Archetype
The Dreamer – who sees all possibilities, but chooses none.
The card's image and symbolism
A dark figure stands, with its back to us, looking at seven cups emerging from clouds. Each contains something different: one has jewels, another a laurel wreath, a third a face, then a castle, a dragon, a snake – and in one cup, a shining figure covered with a veil.
All of them float in the cloud. None are real. This is the key to the card: these are not possibilities. These are desires.
The figure just stands. It doesn't reach for any of them. It can't – how do you choose from things that aren't even there?
Look at what's in the cups. Wealth, glory, love, home, power, temptation. And a veiled radiance – that which you don't even dare to look at.
The number seven is about the test. Here, you don't have to fight, as in the Seven of Wands. Here, you have to decide.
Psychological Interpretation
The Seven of Cups is the dreamer within you. The part that loves to live in possibilities – because as long as everything is possible, you can't be disappointed by anything.
This card describes a very human trap. Choice is loss: whoever chooses one, lets go of six. That's why it's so comfortable to float in the cloud. There, all seven are still yours.
But there's a price. He who never chooses is not free – only paralyzed. And meanwhile, the years pass.
It also reminds you that not all your desires are truly yours. Some things you want because you've been taught that you should want them. Among the seven cups, there are some that belong to someone else.
Spiritual Interpretation
The card marks the boundary between illusions and reality. It teaches that desire alone does not create – only decision does.
The angels’ message is: you see beautiful things. But none of them will become real until you grasp them. Reach for it. For one.
