But the card also warns inwardly: financial anxiety is greatest at night. The same bill that is a task in the afternoon feels like the end of the world at three in the morning. The number hasn't changed. The light has changed.

Look at the crab crawling out of the water: the old fear that isn't even yours — that of your parents, who worried about money at the end of the month. It's not malicious, just very old, and it doesn't arrive anywhere: it crawls out, looks around, sinks back down.

This is the only card in the Major Arcana where no one stands — because you have to face your numbers yourself, and no one else can do that for you. This is not loneliness: this is the nature of the fog.

In its reversed position, this card is good news: the fog is lifting, the truth is coming out — and the number you feared is almost always smaller than the fear you carried because of it.
