The image and symbolism of the card

Three figures stand in a circle, raising their cups high. They are dancing, their clothes flowing. At their feet lie pumpkins, grapes, and ripe fruit – the abundance of the harvest.

This card is perhaps the simplest in the entire deck, and perhaps the most underestimated. It conveys that joy is a shared thing. That's all. And yet, most people forget precisely this.

The shape of the circle

They form a circle. They are not facing each other, as in the Two, but in a circle – and this is not mere decoration.

In a circle, there is no first and no last. Everyone is equally important, everyone sees everyone, and no one stands behind another. Where there is a circle, there is no hierarchy.

This is one of the oldest forms of human togetherness: around the fire, around the table, dancing in a circle. It is no coincidence that it has survived for millennia.

The fruit at their feet

Below is the harvest: pumpkins, grapes, ripe fruit. This joy has been worked for.

It is no coincidence that it appears precisely in the Three. In the Ace, the heart opened; in the Two, the meeting happened; and in the Three, there is already something to celebrate. Joy here is not a mood, but a result.

Joy that multiplies when shared

There is a simple math to this card. Sorrow shared is half as much; joy shared is threefold. Most people know the first, but forget the second.

Many feel that it is inappropriate to boast about good news, as it is immodest. This card disagrees. If there is something good in your life, share it – not out of boasting, but because the joy you keep to yourself is half as much.

Rejoicing for others

And the card also has a more difficult request. In the circle, they are not only applauding you: you must also applaud.

To genuinely rejoice in someone else's success is harder than it sounds. Something stirs in everyone when another achieves what they desire. But those who can overcome this receive much more in return than they might think – because good news gladly comes to those who can rejoice.

Friendship is not a luxury

This card is about friendship, and it's worth talking about seriously. In adulthood, many sacrifice their friends on the altar of work and family. Not by choice – there just isn't time, and then years pass.

Then suddenly, they realize they are lonely, even though their lives are full of people.

Friendships don't maintain themselves. A message, a call, an afternoon together – that's all it takes, and yet we neglect this first, because it's not urgent. Friendship is never urgent, until it's too late.

The shadow side

The shadow is superficial company: when someone is surrounded by many people, and yet none of them truly know them. A noisy circle is not the same as a genuine one.

The other shadow is escaping into community: when someone is constantly among people so they don't have to be alone with themselves.
