In love, the Four of Pentacles is the card of holding tight.

You're not holding on so tightly because you have little love. It's because it was once taken away. There was someone who left, or something that collapsed, and ever since, you embrace every good thing with the gesture of not letting it be lost.

Look at the picture: he clutches a coin to his chest with both arms. You can't embrace like that. Someone who is holding something with both arms has no arms free to pull someone close.

This card shows this. You are not cold. Your hands are full.

If you are in a relationship: jealousy is not love. From the outside, they both look the same – internally, you know the difference. If you ask where they were, do you ask because you care, or because you are afraid? Jealousy tires the person you are jealous of. They don't leave because they don't love you. They leave because they can't constantly prove themselves.

If you are alone: look at what is behind the person in the picture. The city. People, life, noise. And he sits outside the gate, with his back to it. He wasn't excluded – he sat out there, where he is safe, where it's his. The price of safety is always the same: you miss out.

And notice the coin on his head that he balances. When you calculate even in love – who gave more, who called last, who gave in – then love has moved into your head. It's very difficult to bring it back to your chest from there.

What you hold onto rigidly cannot grow. Let go a little. Not everything. Just a little.

And now, notice what they cannot do this way: embrace. Someone whose arms are full has no arms to draw someone close.

This is not a character flaw. It's a memory. Something was once taken from you. There was someone who left, or something that collapsed – and ever since, you accept every good thing with that same gesture, so that it won't be lost. What saved you then now hinders you. This is your entire message.

If you are in a relationship, ask yourself tonight the one true question: when you ask where they were, who they were with, why they were late – do you ask because you care? Or because you are afraid?
